Description

Roughly one third of semileptonic $B \rightarrow X_c \ell \nu$ decays do not proceed through the (quasi-)three-body modes $B \rightarrow D^{*} \ell \nu$, but through higher resonances such as the $B\rightarrow D^{**}(\rightarrow D^{*}\pi)\ell\nu$ or unmeasured other modes, often referred to as the semileptonic gap.
In this talk we introduce a new model-independent description of a subset of the remaining modes, specifically of $B \rightarrow D \pi \ell \nu$ decays. We extend the form factor parameterization of Boyd, Grinstein & Lebed to allow for two final state hadrons and incorporate recent developments concerning the $D\pi$ S-wave.
We conclude by discussing possible measurements that could further our understanding of $B \rightarrow D \pi \ell \nu$ decays, as well as the semileptonic gap, which could be performed at Belle II and LHCb.
