In this talk I will give an introduction to generative models for lattice field theory. Following the spirit of the workshop, I will try to give an accessible review of the basics of lattice field theory and discuss its close analogies to large molecule generation. I will also summarize the challenges of the field and the ongoing efforts to overcome them.
