Beyond Academia: Career Paths for Physicists

The seminar is aimed at final-year Master's and doctoral students who have specialized in particle physics, medical physics, or related fields, as well as students who work in an interdisciplinary research program with matching interests. The seminar aims to bridge the gap between university education and industry and to foster dialogue between students and practitioners. We will invite former students, industry contacts, or non-academic collaborators to present their work as physicists in industry, business, or management, to explain how they entered the labor market, and to discuss which of the skills and competencies they learned during their university education have proven useful. Students will also be introduced to research opportunities in industry, e.g., as potential future employees or for doctoral studies.

The seminar is initiated and supported by the Cluster of Excellence "Color meets Flavor", the Research Training Group "AMTEC-PRO", and the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master "Advanced Methods in Particle Physics (IMAPP)".

The seminar will take place on Mondays at 17:15 starting June 8, 2026.

On-site participation:

Depending on the number of participants, the seminar will take place in seminar room CP-03-144 (seminar room of the Kröninger Group) or a larger lecture hall. Please register for an on-site participation before each seminar. We will send a reminder a week in advance.
