Description

Abstract:  In the search for gravitational waves (GW), the focus has been on the Hz to kHz frequency range, where the strongest signals from known astrophysical objects were expected. However, our universe is expected to be populated by GWs across many decades, similar to electromagnetic radiation. This motivated the development of several observational efforts at frequencies above the LIGO band. In this presentation, I will start with an overview of the primary physics objectives and the currently explored technological concepts. The main focus of the talk will be on a heterodyne detection method using microwave cavities, which emerges as a promising approach for detecting high-frequency gravitational waves or ultralight axion dark matter. I will provide an account of the ongoing research and a roadmap for a future experiment.
