Investigation of heavy exotic mesons with lattice QCD

by Mark Wagner (Frankfurt)

Description

Abstract:

In the first part of the talk I discuss the basic principle of computing masses of hadrons (= bound states of quarks and gluons, e.g. the proton, the neutron or the pion) with lattice QCD, which is a numerical method to solve the complicated equations of quantum chromodynamics (= QCD). The presentation is intended for non-experts, i.e. only basic knowledge in theoretical physics is required, as e.g. known from standard quantum mechanics and electrodynamics lectures.
In the second part of the talk I present selected recent lattice QCD results for exotic mesons, which are states with uncommon quark and gluon configurations, so-called tetraquarks and hybrid mesons.
