String Seminar

IIB Revisited

Description

In this talk I will summarize some recent new results in type IIB string theory. One is a subtle anomaly in the duality of type IIB, which can be cancelled with various realization of a discrete or topological Green-Schwarz mechanism. The other is the analysis of type IIB string theory in the light of the Cobordism Conjecture, which leads to a (re)discovery of various stringy objects and backgrounds. Among them is a new, non-supersymmetric 7-brane, whose properties and applications I will discuss in more detail.
