Description
Abstract:

In May 2026 the CERN Council updated the European Strategy for Particle Physics according to the recommendations of the
European Strategy Group ESG. I will report on the almost 2-year-long process which involved the broad particle physics community,
large particle physics labs and representatives of the CERN´s member and associate member states. I will discuss the main
recommendations and try to explain how they were achieved. In terms of major projects, the success of the HiLumi LHC project is the highest priority
in the field. On the longer term, the FCC-ee, representing a high-luminosity is recommended as next flagship project for CERN.
I will also discuss alternatives which were studied in course of the process and will try to explain why FCC-ee was considered superior.
Various additional recommendations on strategic topics were also made. I will also briefly discuss these.
