A Toric Approach to Black Hole Condensation

Description

The moduli spaces of Calabi–Yau families in compactifications of string theory are connected by topological transitions. Physically, the process includes massless BPS black holes, which cure conifold singularities in the 4D effective theory. Using the toric description of fibred Calabi–Yau families, I will characterise the loci in their moduli spaces where these phenomena arise and determine the models that appear on the opposite side. A catalogue of one-parameter models embedded in genus-one- and K3-fibrations will be presented. The structure is independent of the compactification dimension and I will comment on applications in M/F-theory. The talk is based on joint work with Paul Blesse, Janis Dücker and Albrecht Klemm.
